Frequently Asked Questions

Here’s a place where I’ll answer some of the questions you have about the site, about myself and about my stories.

If you don’t see your question answered here please click the "contact me" link at the top menu and send me a message! I’ll try to answer you back as soon as possible!

Who are you?

The name’s Brittany Edwards and I’ve wanted to be an author ever since I was a little girl! I’ve always loved writing and reading good books! I made this site to stay in touch with writing and to give others an opportunity to love writing and reading stories as much as I do!

Have you been published before?

Yes! Click here for my first book! http://www.blurb.ca/bookstore/detail/3466395

Now, this published work is not in the "traditional" sense, but I’ve submitted my work to editors before. Let me tell you becoming published is a lot of work but until I am picked up by a publishing company, my book will be available to order through www.blurb.ca

What kinds of books do you like to write/read?

I love fantasy! Vampires, Elizabethan and Tudor times, princes and princesses/medieval times kinda things… Sometimes I really feel that reality is hard and sometimes boring so I like to "escape" into a book to take my mind off things. So naturally I love to write about the same sorts of things!

Who are Shimi, Quatre, Draco, Amara, Gorgo and Sin?

They’re characters from my first book I’ve written called "A Promise Kept". Everyone except for Quatre are vampires, but don’t be fooled by the stereotypes going around nowadays! My vamps are far from Dracula, Vampire Diaries, Twilight and True Blood types… You’ll just have to wait around for the books to be published to find out more! ;)

What do they look like?

Go into the "pictures" link at the top menu bar and I’ve posted a few representations of them. The two book covers were drawn by a good friend of mine. Quatre, Shimi and Draco are probably the best represented ones on them!

Can you send me/post more of your book(s) online?

As much as I’d love to, it’s really dangerous to send out your unpublished book due to copyright. Anyone could just take your story and/or ideas and publish it under their own name without your permission! And besides, I’d like people to be able to buy my book(s) and not just read them online for free. So yes I can post a few things but I can’t put on much more, sorry!

How long have you been writing?

I have always enjoyed writing –about grade five and six I actually started to get a bit more serious about it though. I started writing "A Promise Kept" in grade eight and finished one year after high school in 2007 –so about six years. I am almost done writing the sequel titled "The Secret" which I started soon after finishing the first one. I wrote a shorter novel titled "I’m With You" starting in grade nine and finishing in grade twelve of an unrelated topic to the other two. I have a binder full of story ideas from grade seven on that I’ve thought of! So really about ten years I’ve been writing "seriously"!

Any tips for aspiring writers out there?

Yep! Haha first of all, understand that this whole process takes time; the ideas and thoughts that go into it, the actual writing, the editing, the rereading and eventually the pursuit of publishing! Be patient and if you’re frustrated don’t give up, just take a break and come back to it some other time!

Also, a published author who came into our school when I was in grade five (her name was Kathy Jessup I believe) told us that there’s no such thing as a "good copy" of your work and I know now what she means by that! Even when you finish a story and you’ve read it 1000 times one day you’ll find something you want to change, add or delete so don’t stress if you feel your work "isn’t good enough" because for you it might never be. But other people are your best help if you’re really unsure!

Use friends, family and even teachers to help you with your writing! And tell them to be honest, but kind. If 3 people tell you to "change it" or whatever then listen. If you have one person only, consider it but it’s not entirely necessary! ;)

And remember, I’m not an expert either. Do what you feel is right in your heart. Your writing is your creation. And if you’re like me it’s something you love to do so keep it treasured.

And lastly, writers only get better with practice and time so keep it up even if you’re not sure it’s "good". Sometimes we just need to write gibberish first to get to our "masterpiece".

If I send you some of my work, would you read it and tell me what you think?

Sure! Just send it by the page under the link "contact me"! Or you can just email me at missedwards@live.ca and put in the subject line "Story-Sharing" so I’ll know that’s what you want!

Well that’s all the questions for now, so remember if you have any others just send it by using the "contact me" link on the menu bar at the top of the page!
